COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There was brief discussion at Monday night’s Coldwater Board of Education meeting about “what’s next” following the failure of two bond proposals May 5. Superintendent Dr. Tina Kerr briefly spoke about moving forward with a “Plan B” in the aftermath of the defeat at the polls earlier this month of the district’s pair of proposed bond issues.
Kerr said the district is taking a close look at applying for Qualified Zone Academy Bonds, a federal loan program for the renovation and improvement of school facilities on an interest free basis through the allocation of tax credits. Kerr said they would borrow $7-million with the bonding potentially for 15 years.
In other business, the school board last night approved an increase of 5-cents in meal prices for the 2015-16 school year. The board also approved the hiring of Casey Adams as boys head varsity basketball coach for next year. Adams was an assistant varsity coach this past season until mid-January when he was named acting head coach after coach Brien Kelly announced he was taking a leave of absence from the post.
