COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An overheated extension cord is getting the blame for a fire yesterday afternoon in Coldwater at a two story apartment house. Firemen found smoke showing from the rear of the structure when they arrived at 121 Elm Street around 15 minutes past 12 noon Tuesday. They made entry into the rear apartment and the flames were quickly knocked down. The fire was contained to the bedroom room where the blaze originated.
No one was home at the time in that apartment which sustained significant smoke and heat damage. The other occupants of the house were able to escape without injury. There were no apparent working smoke detectors in the building.
The Coldwater Fire Department said the names of the people living at the house and the building’s owner were not available at this time. Firefighters were on the scene for an hour and ten minutes.
