COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An updated Branch County Master Plan is one step away from going into effect after a public hearing was held on Thursday during the Branch County Board of Commissioners work session.
The Commissioners voted to bring the Master Plan forward to their March 29 meeting when formal action will be taken. The public hearing was the last step of all of the requirements needed to be met before Commissioners take a final vote.
Patrick Hudson of the Southcentral Michigan Planning Council has worked on updating the Master Plan which was originally written in 1993. He said the plan addresses the issue of solar energy.
County Administrator Bud Norman said a couple of tweaks had to be made.
Commissioner Leonard Kolcz pointed out a mistake about the number of Branch County golf courses.
The Branch County Planning Commission along with the Southcentral Michigan Planning Council worked on the plan for nearly two years.
It was updated thanks in part to the controversy in recent years of proposed wind turbines in the northwestern part of the county. It was also felt an updated Master Plan would benefit development and help communities with grant funding.
Funding for updating the Master Plan was approved by the Board of Commissioners in December of 2019.
