COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There were new records set Saturday in fund raising and the number of people participating in the Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event and the Branch County Coalition against Domestic Violence will need all of that money to help offset federal cuts this year to their programs. Saturday’s effort in downtown Coldwater saw close to 200 walkers as well as over 100 runners in the 278-SAFE Marathon which is almost double the number who entered the marathon last year.
Kim Hemker, the Executive Director of the BCCADV, says the preliminary report shows the 2015 Walk-A-Mile event netted the Coalition Against Domestic Violence $15,000 more than last year with the net total from Saturday adding up to over $35,000. Hemker said that should allow the Coalition to break even on their costs for the current fiscal year.
All of the proceeds from the event benefit survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
