COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It bodes well for the future for Coldwater and Branch County. Coldwater has been ranked in the top-20 in the state for Young Families in Michigan. The NerdWallet, a personal finance website, has named the City of Coldwater the 17th best city for Young Families out of 173 municipalities in Michigan with a population over 5,000 residents.
A variety of criteria was used in assessing the combination of solid schools, great neighbors and affordable housing. According to NerdWallet, the median home value in Coldwater, as of 2013, was $80,300 while the median family income was just under $45,000. Also, there was a 32% family income growth between 1999 and 2013. The survey found that 22% of the families in the city of Coldwater had at least one child under the age of 18.
And NerdWallet used GreatSchools.Org, a national school rating website. On a one to ten scale, Coldwater schools received a 6 rating, or average, which falls in the 4-7 range. 8-10 is above average with 1-3 below average.
