LANSING (WTVB) – Supporters of recreational use of marijuana in Michigan are expected to submit a ballot proposal with the State Board of Canvassers today. Matt Marsden with the Michigan Cannabis Coalition said they need 300,000 signatures to get the question onto the ballot.
The Michigan Cannabis Revenue and Control Act would allow people to smoke marijuana on private property, but not in public spaces. The ballot question calls for state taxation of the industry to benefit education, public safety and public health. Communities could prohibit marijuana growing through an ordinance, if the measure is approved.
