DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Red Sox evened their series with the Tigers after earning a 5-3 comeback win in Detroit. The Tigers put together a three-run third inning against Boston starter Rich Hill. Robbie Grossman, Jonathan Schoop, and Javy Baez drove in runs for Detroit. Spencer Torkelson hit a double in the third for his first Major League hit then scored his first run later in the inning.
Tyler Alexander started the game for the Tigers and was pulled with one out in the sixth inning after allowing three runs. Rafael Devers led the way at the plate for the Sox with three hits and two RBIs. Garrett Whitlock earned the win after pitching four scoreless innings of relief. Eduardo Rodriguez heads to the mound for the Tigers while the Red Sox send Nathan Eovaldi to the hill in this afternoon’s rubber game.
Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman is day-to-day after leaving Tuesday’s loss to the Red Sox with a groin injury. Pitcher Andrew Chafin tossed his second bullpen session as he works his way back from a groin injury. Outfielder Derek Hill is running as part of rehab of a hamstring strain. Chafin and Hill could return to the team late this month.
