QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles used a eight run fourth inning to defeat the Union City Chargers 10-2 in the first game of a scheduled Big 8 Conference baseball doubleheader on Tuesday.
Quincy’s Brady Mescher was solid on the mound pitching into the sixth inning while giving up just three hits and striking out nine.
Karsen Maurer relieved Mescher and and fanned four Charger batters.
A two run single by freshman Brennen Allman keyed the eight run uprising for Quincy.
The Orioles were again sure-handed on defense and didn’t commit a single error as they improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The second game of the doubleheader was suspended by darkness after three-and-a-half innings with the Chargers leading 11-6.
Union City’s Owen Jackson had four RBI’s before play was suspended. Jackson and Johnson had two hits for Union City.
The two teams plan to complete the game at a later date.
