COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While the new 800 megahertz digital radio system in Branch County has been getting mostly positive reviews, a discussion during Wednesday’s 911 Communications Board meeting indicated there are still some bugs that have to be worked out.
Fire departments in Branch County switched over to the new system on February 14. Police departments switched over on March 21 as a system from the early 1990’s was replaced.
Branch County Sheriff John Pollack said the different system took some getting used to.
Branch County 911 Assistant Director Jean Ratkowski said dispatchers have had some issues with the volume.
The new system is designed to improve signals and communications for police, firefighters and rescue crews.
Branch County voters approved a phone surcharge in November of 2020 to help fund the project.
