COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, there were just one event over the weekend and in girls soccer, Coldwater lost a 2-1 non-conference match Saturday night at Vicksburg. After a scoreless first half, Vicksburg made it 1-0 at the 19:05 mark and then went ahead 2-0 with a goal with 12:40 to play in second half. Coldwater scored with 7:13 left when Madison Marsh found the back of the net on a short pass in the box from Megan Hoath. Shelby Bowers made 7 saves in goal in the loss which dropped Coldwater’s record to 1-and-1.
Vicksburg also won the JV game 2-0. Jasmine Renshaw had 3 saves in goal for Coldwater with 6 saves for Nadia Kiersey. The schedule continues tonight for Coldwater in girls soccer with their third straight non-conference road game to begin the season with a match at Sturgis.
Also today in high school sports, it’s opening day in baseball and softball for Coldwater with the Cardinals at home against cross county rival Union City. Also in baseball and softball season openers, Bronson plays at home against Homer. And today in track, Bronson starts it season with a home meet against Athens.

The Coldwater high school gymnastics annual awards banquet was last night and picking up a pair of awards was Jenny Daoud, selected Outstanding Senior of the Year and she also was honored for Most Season Varsity Points. Sarah Hughes was named Rookie of the Year. Megan Eguia was the recipient of the Jillian Crist Award as All Around Most Improved player as well as Most Improved on vault. Other Most Improved honors went to Abby Swick on vault, Madison Hedstrom on the balance beam and Sarah Odom for floor exercise. And recognized for their South Central Gymnastics League honors were Madison Hedstrom, Jenny Daoud, and Sarah Odom, Academic All-Conference, along with All-Conference All Around and All-Conference Vault for Daoud.
