Poll finds more respondents would vote no on Proposal 1 in May

LANSING (WTVB) – A new MIRS News/Target Insyght poll showed 55 percent of 700 respondents would vote no on the May 5^th Proposal 1 question on the statewide ballot. Surveyors add that, when the entire ballot language was read to those respondents this past Tuesday and Wednesday, the number rose to 65 percent. This comes as 72 percent had seen or heard ads promoting the proposal. A year ago, a similar survey about a one-percent hike in the state sales tax for roads had similar negative results. Pollster Ed Sarpolus felt that backers of Proposal One may need to “sound different messages through different messengers.” He said that an ad campaign with all four living former Governors, Bill Milliken, Jim Blanchard, John Engler and Jennifer Granholm, joining current Chief Executive Rick Snyder in support of the measure could be effective.
