BRONSON (WTVB) – “Making It Cool To Be Kind”. That’s the name of a new program for Bronson Community Schools funded by the Branch County Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council. Bronson Schools received a $7,000 grant from the Foundation to fund the school/community climate improvement project. High School Principal Wes McCrea says they are seeing and hearing concerns related to how students treat each other. While there have been some instances of bullying, often times students report cases of inconsiderate behavior resulting in hurt feelings and general climate issues. McCrea also believes some cases of truancy are a result of students feeling disconnected or alienated from school and their peers. Superintendent of Bronson Schools Teresa Belote says their vision is to get students involved to increase awareness of unkind behavior and pro-actively work to create a positive environment for everyone. The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is the Community Foundation’s youth philanthropy program. YAC consists of youth ages 12-21 from Branch County and Colon.
