COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, Coldwater varsity girls soccer started their season last night with a 3-0 win at Hastings. Sophomore Madison Marsh scored all 3 goals in her first varsity game. Hailey Danielson and Megan Hoath each had one assist. And Shelby Bowers had one save in goal as the Lady Cardinals outshot Hastings 11-2. Coldwater’s next match is another non-conference game tomorrow at Vicksburg.
Thursday’s JV match at Hastings ended in a 0-0 tie with 2 saves in goal for Coldwater’s Jasmine Renshaw. Last night’s Quincy girls soccer match at Sturgis was cancelled.
Yesterday in baseball, Quincy opened its season with a 9-8 comeback victory at home over Olivet. The Orioles were behind 6-2 going into the fifth inning when they scored a run and then added 3 more in the sixth to make it a 6-6 tie. Olivet went back ahead 8-6 with two runs in the top of the seventh before Quincy pulled out the victory. Tyler Powell tossed the first six innings for the Orioles with 7 strikeouts. Hunter Haylett earned the victory in relief. Haylett also had a double and 3 rbi’s while Jake Rider added a hit with an rbi and scored twice. Quincy returns to action Tuesday at Lenawee Christian.
The MHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament semi-finals tipped off yesterday and Hanover Horton, the last area team in the field, had their season end with the Comets losing 71-43 in their Class C matchup against top-ranked Flint Beecher. The Final Four at the Breslin Center continues today with the Class A and Class B semi-finals and then tomorrow, it’s Championship Saturday and we’ll have all 4 of the title games on the radio beginning with Class D at ten a.m.
