ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A police pursuit last night in Northeast Indiana ended when the car being chased in Steuben County crashed head on into a semi. The car driver died early today at a Ft. Wayne hospital some 7 hours following the incident.
The victim was identified as 25-year old Brice Bassett of Angola. The collision occurred on U.S. 20 west of I-69 while Bassett was being pursued by a Sheriff’s Department deputy. Angola firefighters had to pry Bassett out of the wreckage of his 1999 Toyota Camry and debris from the crash impact with the semi struck the deputy’s squad car.
The chase began after the deputy attempted to stop Bassett for a traffic violation as he was exiting I-69 at U.S. 20. The 57-year old truck driver from Pennsylvania refused medical treatment. The investigation into the accident continues by Angola Police.
