UNDATED (WTVB) – The spring high school sports schedule for Branch County schools got underway yesterday with Coldwater’s girls tennis team bringing home a second place tie from the Jenison Invitational, which was held indoors at the Ramblewood Tennis Club in Grandville. Winning two out of three matches for the Lady Cardinals were Emma Grife at first singles, Emma Dwyer at second singles, Karissa Harrell at third singles, Aubrey Hodson and Alysa Bowen at third doubles, and Emily Hicks and Brooke Lafferty at fourth doubles. Coldwater returns to action next Saturday at the Vicksburg Invitational. Coming up next Tuesday, Quincy softball opens up its season by hosting Addison, while Quincy girls soccer travels to Olivet. Next Wednesday, Quincy and Union City begin their track seasons at the Hillsdale College Invitational.
The winter high school calendar continues to wind down with the MHSAA Girls Basketball Finals today at the Breslin Center. The last area team still standing, Hillsdale County’s Pittsford Wildcats, look to cap off a perfect season when they take on St. Ignace this morning in the Class D Final. Yesterday in the Class B Semifinals, Benton Harbor saw its season come to an end with a 63-52 loss to Haslett; Haslett will face perennial power Detroit Country Day tonight at 6 in the Class B Final. In between those games, in Class A at noon, It’s Birmingham Marian vs. DeWitt, while in Class C at 4pm, Flint Hamady faces Calumet. The MHSAA Boys Basketball tournament wraps up next weekend.
