COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The suspect in a murder for hire plot being prosecuted in Branch County was bound over yesterday to stand trial following a District Court preliminary exam in Coldwater. The Michigan Attorney General’s office is handling the case against 28-year old Michael Still. The St. Clair County man, who is currently a state prison inmate at Ionia being held on unrelated charges, was behind bars at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater last April when he allegedly hatched the plan to solicit a former inmate to kill his ex-girlfriend.
Authorities said they learned of the plot when officers at Lakeland intercepted a letter that was returned to Still as undeliverable with the letter detailing the alleged scheme. He faces up to life in prison if convicted on the solicitation of murder charge which was brought against Still in January. The A.G.’s office also filed notice to supplement Still as a fourth time habitual offender due to his prior criminal record.
A pre-trial hearing in Branch County Circuit Court for Still is set for April 20, 2015.
