COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved a request from the Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday afternoon to hire a retired corrections employee to work part-time.
The hiring was seen as a way to help the Sheriff’s Department deal with a shortage of Corrections Officers which forced the department to go to mandatory overtime.
The part-time employee’s wage would be about $22.54 per hour which will be paid through the General Salaries budget line item.
The Union representing Corrections Officers indicated they did not have a problem with the hire.
The former employee will be returned as an irregular employee, working between 20 and 32 hours per week with a maximum of 64 hours per pay period.
This will be paid from the General Salaries budget line item.
In other business, the Commissioners formally approved over $103,000 worth of Add-ons for the 911 Tower Project.
Officials say the additions to the 911 system are to make it more efficient and operable. They included scanners, fire station alerting, switches and stubby antennas.
