QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, the much anticipated major matchup in state tournament Boys basketball between Quincy and Hillsdale is happening tonight as the two teams with just one loss between them play for the title of the MHSAA Hillsdale Class C District. The championship contest which caps off the opening week of March Magic tips off at 7 pm, with live coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 beginning at 6:30 pm.
Quincy this week improved to 21-1 with wins over Reading and Bronson while the host Hornets had a first round bye before beating Union City on Wednesday to move their record to 21-0. Whoever wins tonight at Hillsdale advances to next Monday’s Class-C Regional at Adrian Madison and a semi-final game against the survivor of the Hanover Horton District. Hanover Horton tonight shoots for its 14th straight district title when it takes on Vandercook Lake.
The championship game of the Coldwater Class B District is tonight as Sturgis faces off against Edwardsburg at 7 pm. Sturgis ended Coldwater’s season Wednesday night in the semi-finals with a 47-44 victory over the Cardinals. The winner of the Coldwater District moves on to the Comstock Regionals.
In girls basketball, Regional titles were on the line last night and headed to next week’s quarterfinals is Homer, which won the Concord Class C Regional with a 60-43 victory over Galesburg-Augusta. It’s the Trojans first Regional title in 33 years. And Hillsdale County has an undefeated girls team that will play in the Sweet Sixteen as Pittsford is now 24-0 following the Wildcats 65-20 win last night over Morrice for the title of the Morenci Class D Regional.
