COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Unemployment in Michigan went down one tenth of a percent to begin 2015. For all of last year, the jobless rate for the state was 7.3%. The number out of work in Michigan fell by 77,000 or 20.5% percent from January 2014 to January 2015 to outpace the national decline of 12.7%.
We won’t know where Branch County stood to start this year until the end of next week. The numbers for local job markets around the state are running behind right now as is the case most years as the figures are under review at the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget.
Branch County’s unemployment rate at the end of last year was 5% after starting 2014 with an 8% rate for January a year ago.
