COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The opening week of MHSAA boys high school basketball March Magic continues tonight, including the Coldwater Class B District semifinals as the host Cardinals will begin post season play against long-time rival Sturgis. Both teams drew first round byes, setting the stage for a rematch of their game last week when the Cardinals scored a six point win at Sturgis. We’ll have tonight’s contest on the radio with our live coverage starting at 7 pm and you can also listen on-line at wtvbam.com. In this evening’s Coldwater District semifinal opener at 6 pm, it’s Three Rivers vs. Edwardsburg. The District title game is Friday night at 7 pm.
Also tonight, two Branch County teams will face off against each other as Quincy takes on Bronson at the Hillsdale Class C District. The tipoff is set for 7:30 pm and follows the semifinal opener at 6 pm between Union City and undefeated Hillsdale. The host Hornets drew a first round bye while on Monday night, Quincy eliminated Reading to improve to 20-1 and Bronson pulled out a win at Jonesville. The Hillsdale District Final is Friday at 7 pm. Tonight, at the Litchfield Class D District, Pansophia Academy takes on North Adams-Jerome.
The second week of the Girls basketball state tournament started last night with the Regional semifinals. No Branch County teams survived district play but several schools in the area were in action last night although Athens and Marshall both suffered season ending losses as did Battle Creek Lakeview and Battle Creek St. Philip. Moving on to Thursday’s Regional Finals with wins were Homer and Galesburg-Augusta along with Pittsford.
