COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The cause of a Sunday night house fire at 229 East Washington which caused nearly $12,000 worth of damage remains under investigation.
Coldwater Fire Marshal Steve Trall says the fire at the home owned by Mohammed Qarteet was reported at 7:00 p.m..
Smoke was showing from the home when the first firefighters arrived.
The home was occupied but no injuries were reported.
He says the fire was found in the basement of the two story single family home and was quickly put out.
The building was then checked for any fire extension. The fire was called out after about 30 minutes.
Damage was contained to the basement and the interior wall of a family room on the first floor.
The Coldwater Fire Department got automatic mutual aide from the Quincy Fire Department.
Other agencies assisting on scene were the Coldwater Police Department, Branch County Victims Assistance Team, Coldwater Board of Public Utilities, and Michigan Gas.
Fire crews were on the scene until 9:18 p.m..
