DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Major League Baseball lockout set up a strange double header that was between the Tigers and Oakland Athletics in Detroit Tuesday.
With the Tigers batting first as the road team, despite being in their home stadium, Tarik Skubal shut down A’s hitters with seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 win for Detroit in game one.
Jeimer Candelario went three-for-five with three runs batted in. The second game of the twin bill was more traditional.
Detroit was once again the home team, but this time it was Oakland that came away with a 4-1 victory over the Tigers. Adrian Martinez got the win in his MLB debut after being pulled with one out in the sixth inning without allowing a run.
The Athletics are now 12-and-19 while the Tigers are 9-and-21.
The Tigers will resume their series with the A’s tonight in Detroit. Joey Wentz will make his big league debut for the Tigers, who sit at 9-and-21 on the year. Oakland will counter with Zach Logue.
