COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council passed a resolution Monday night that gave a positive recommendation for the state to issue a Banquet Facility Permit liquor license for Jim’s Place Billiards at 4 South Monroe.
To receive a liquor license from the state, a resolution like the one passed Monday night has to be approved by a local legislative body.
The new business will be located in the former Wilber’s Furniture Store and is owned by James Brauker.
Robin Walling is the general manager and she told the Council there is no timeline for the business to open.
She said both floors will be used.
Walling added they plan to have 10 to 14 pool tables in the front part of the building which has about 2,800 square feet.
A portion of the building was formerly occupied by the Corona Smoke Shop which opened in early March 2020 but tobacco stores and smoke shops in Michigan were forced to shut down a few weeks later under one of Governor Whitmer’s Executive Orders that were issued due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The smoke shop closed for good in April 2021 after being open just on Saturdays.
The Wilbur’s Furniture store closed in the fall of 2018 when the owners retired. Wilber’s had been in business for 101 years.
