COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a Grievance Settlement Agreement and Release Resolution on Monday night with former Coldwater Police Sgt. David Crilly who was employed with the Coldwater Police Department from 1998 until March 27, 2020.
The agreement was between the City of Coldwater, the Police Officers Labor Council and Crilly.
The Union had previously demanded arbitration of the matter.
The settlement came after negotiations between the city and the union.
The Police Officers Labor Council said their union will accept the Agreement and Release, the contents of which are to remain confidential.
Crilly’s last day with the department was 10 days after WOOD-TV reported that no criminal charges would be filed against a Coldwater police officer following a Michigan State Police investigation into a complaint alleging misconduct by the unnamed officer. The Allegan County Prosecutor’s Officer was also part of the investigation.
Public Safety Director Joe Scheid announced on February 14 the officer was being placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The nature of the complaint which originated in Allegan County was not been released. Scheid said on March 18 an internal investigation was being conducted after the State Police investigation was done.
Under department policy, the Michigan State Police were asked by Coldwater Police to conduct the investigation.
WOOD-TV says they obtained the Michigan State Police reports through the Freedom of Information Act. However, the reports were largely redacted so they don’t indicate what the alleged misconduct was and why Prosecutors in Allegan County declined to issue charges.
