GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Authorities say a Massachusetts man pleaded guilty on Thursday, May 26, to threatening to kill a 911 dispatcher in Calhoun County.
According to court documents, 35-year-old Jonathan Joshua Munafo called the Calhoun County 911 dispatch line over 140 times on January 5th in 2021.
During the call, Munafo demanded to speak to a Deputy Sheriff or Sergeant about unspecified issues, but did not have an emergency to report. When the dispatcher refused, Munafo repeatedly called back threatening her by saying, “I’m gonna cut your throat,” along with other various expletives.
He went onto say that after the “Insurrection Act,” he was “coming to your door first,” and said, “it’s going to be way worse for your family.
Cell phone location records revealed Munafo placed the calls from a truck stop in North Carolina.
The next day on January 6th, he had participated in the riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to separate indictment returned by a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia.
Munafo is charged in that case with forcibly assaulting and officer of the Capitol Police among eight other charges.
He will appear in Washington D.C. next to face those charges after his sentencing in Grand Rapids.
Munafo faces a maximum of five years in prison.
