COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Those who gave their lives for our country will be honored during Memorial Day ceremonies in the City of Coldwater on Monday.
Long time organizer Jerry Ford says the program for Monday will return to normal after organizers had to deal with the protocols associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
A Memorial Day program will take place at the Four Corners Park at 8:30 a.m. followed by a parade.
The motorized portion of the parade will continue to the U.S. 12 bridge where the Lost At Sea Dedication will be held.
That will be followed by services in the old section of Oak Grove Cemetery.
The “Gathering of Flags” War Memorial ceremony on Flag Hill is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m..
The keynote speaker this year will be Quincy Master Chief Timothy W. Tracy who earned numerous military decorations and honors during his 30 years in the U.S. Navy.
Craig Watson of Union City, James Burnett of Coldwater and Anthony Matteoni of Union City will all be honored during the ceremony.
The three Branch County members of the U.S. Marine Corps were killed in action while serving their country. Watson and Burnett died in Iraq while Matteoni was killed in Afghanistan.
Coldwater’s American Legion Post 52 will host a free Memorial Day open house beginning with complimentary coffee and donuts at 7:00 a.m..
There will also be a luncheon served at 11:00 a.m. by the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence with food donated by Clemens.
The Legion will remain open to the public throughout the day.
