COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Bond was set yesterday in Branch County District Court at a half million dollars for the Bronson man accused of domestic violence that sparked an hour-long armed standoff with State Police. 34-year old Neil Modert, Jr is facing six charges, including four felony counts, in connection with the Tuesday night incident in Noble Township.
Troopers say it began with a drunken assault on a woman at Modert’s home on Orland Road. His ex-girlfriend fled the scene and later met State Police at her residence in the City of Bronson. After they saw her injuries and heard her story, troopers went to Modert’s house and surrounded the place. That’s when Modert allegedly fired an apparent warning shot from an upstairs bedroom window. After about an hour, he surrendered and police found five long guns inside the home.
Modert has a probable cause hearing in District Court on January 29th with his preliminary exam set for February 5, 2015.
