ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – An Angola business has been vandalized with racial slurs spray painted throughout the store.
Willow Tree Shoppes owner Erlinda Inniss discovered the vandalism on Monday when the she arrived for work.
Pictures of the vandalism were posted on the store’s Facebook page.
She told WANE-TV in Fort Wayne that the shop had been hit in what she describes as a “string” of racially motivated vandalisms.
She added her car had been keyed with the n-word a few weeks ago.
Many community members have expressed support and sympathy and a Go Fund Me page has been set up to help with the clean up.
The store on East Wendell Jacob Avenue will be closed until further notice.
Angola Mayor Dick Hickman said in a statement posted on his Facebook page, “The Willow Trees Shoppes was burglarized sometime last (Sunday) night. It appears to be a hate crime as racial slurs were painted on the floor. The City of Angola Police Department is investigating it. There is no question that this type of stupidity is not nor will it ever be tolerated in our community. This in no way defines what our community is about. We will not tolerate the ignorance that goes along with this crime.”
