COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school wrestling Wednesday night, Coldwater was a winner at home on Senior Night, defeating Harper Creek 39-29. Earning victories for the Cardinals were Josh Powers, Noah Aljabaly, Jesse Miller, Sam DeMeester, Zach Gipple and Colin Klein. Void points went to Schuiab Aljabaly and Zach Chehowski. The Interstate Eight Conference win improved Coldwater’s record to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Also in wrestling, Quincy dropped a pair of matches at Stockbridge, losing 26-24 to Stockbridge and 66-to-12 to Leslie. Posting pin wins for the Orioles were Ezra Brown against Stockbridge and Joe Oberlitner and Kollin Johnson against Leslie.
Last night in gymnastics, Coldwater lost a conference meet at Saline 134.725 to 119. Coldwater opened up their competition on the uneven bars with their highest event total on the season at 26.45. Jenny Daoud earned her third straight individual qualifier with a personal record of 7.95. Sister and teammate Amanda Daoud picked up her second qualifier of the season at 6.8. Next was the vault and senior captain Jenny Daoud had a solid 8.375, again her third straight individual qualifying score as did Madison Hedstrom with a 7.95. Coldwater picked up the momentum on the floor exercise earning five individual qualifying scores. Hedstrom was the high scorer with a personal best of 8.25, her second qualifier on the season. Jenny Daoud was next with yet another qualifier at 8.05 and followed closely behind with Amanda’s 8.0. Picking up the other two individual scores were Darien Dyer and Shelby Kahler. The final event of the competition was the balance beam, where freshmen Brooke Neitzert and Sarah Hughes led the team in scoring. Neitzert placed third overall, earning a personal best and first ever qualifying score of 8.25. Hughes posted a 7.1 that was just shy of an individual score. Leading the Lady Cardinals for the All-Around was Jenny Daoud with a fifth place finish.
Wednesday in bowling, Coldwater competed in a league jamboree and both the boys and girls varsity squads defeated Parma Western in their Interstate Eight Conference opener. High scores for the boys were Brady Omo with a 236 and Shawn Johnson with a 202. Patricia Neely led the girls with a 190 while Sadie Youse rolled a 177. In the j-v action, the Coldwater girls lost to Charlotte with a 134 for Shelby Walker. The jv boys were led by Dominick Clark with a 200. The CHS Bowling Club is having a spaghetti fundraiser Friday night at the Coldwater Elks Lodge from 5:30 to 8 pm.
Tonight in high school sports, weather permitting, in varsity boys basketball, Quincy hosts Union City while Bronson is at Mendon. The reserve hoops schedule in boys and girls basketball includes Coldwater against Jackson Northwest with the girls action in Coldwater where the freshman game tips off at 5:30 followed by the jv contest at seven. And this afternoon in bowling, Coldwater has a home match against Jackson Northwest at Midway Lanes.
