BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service says there is an elevated fire danger Thursday afternoon due to the dry weather and increasing winds.
Forecasters say southwest winds will increase to 10 to 20 mph with some gusts to 25 mph Thursday afternoon.
This combined with a rapid drop in humidity values into the 25 to 30 percent range in many areas will aid in rapid drying of fine fuels.
Residents are asked to follow any local laws that may be in place regarding burning in your location.
If you must burn, ensure that the fire is constantly monitored and several options are available to quickly extinguish it.
Contact your local fire department with any questions and if control of the fire is lost.
Some much rain is in the forecast for Friday. The Michigan State University weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm west of Coldwater has measured only five-hundredths of rain since June 14.
Thursday’s report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows a portion of northeast Indiana is considered to be abnormally dry.
