COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was formally arraigned on six charges including three counts of resisting, assaulting or obstructing police officers on Thursday morning in Branch County District Court.
22-year-old Steven Mertz was arrested late Tuesday night in the 100 block of West Chicago after authorities say he got into a physical confrontation with Coldwater Police.
Mertz was said to be acting erratically and police had gotten calls from a nearby gas station about his behavior.
One officer suffered abrasions to his hand during a scuffle with Mertz.
Mertz is also facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, being in possession of marijuana and calling 911 for unauthorized purposes.
Bond has been set at $25,000. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for next Thursday in Branch County District Court with a preliminary exam set for January 12th.
