COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Montgomery man is being held on a $1 million bond at the Branch County Jail after he was booked on four charges Thursday in connection with a fatal Ovid Township accident on October 28th.
A spokesperson at the Branch County Jail says 32-year-old Michael Daniel Penza is being held on charges of second degree homicide, OWI causing death, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. Penza was arrested following a Michigan State Police investigation into the two vehicle traffic accident that took the life of 54-year-old Brenda Hutchinson of Coldwater.
An arraignment is scheduled to take place on Tuesday morning in Branch County District Court.
According to troopers, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by Hutchison was northbound on Centennial Road when it was struck head-on near Lockwood Road by a full-size black SUV that had crossed the center line. The drivers of both vehicles had to be extricated from their vehicles. Hutchison was pronounced dead at the scene. Penza was the driver of the SUV. He was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, while his daughter was taken to the Community Health Center for treatment.
