COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Board of Public Utility crews will begin the semi-annual hydrant flushing throughout the City on Monday.
Flushing will start with ward 1 followed by wards 3, 2, and 4.
City officials say Coldwater’s water distribution system is a complex network of pipes and storage tanks where sediment and deposits may naturally accumulate over time.
If the materials are not removed by flushing the hydrants, they may cause a decrease in water quality resulting in taste, odor problems or discoloration.
In addition, the C.B.P.U. water department is able to test the pressure of the flow for the fire department to ensure the hydrants are functioning properly.
You may notice a slight discoloration of the water during hydrant flushing. If it happens, slowly run cold water out of your faucet until the water becomes clear.
Officials suggest this is also a good time to flush out your hot water heaters.
Drivers are asked to use caution when the workers are on the side of the road. If you have any questions, contact the C.B.P.U. at 279-9531.
