BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says the executive committee of the Bronson Area Fire Association voted unanimously on Tuesday to move forward with the safety net ambulance on a six month trial basis.
Wilber says as long as Branch County Medical Control has no concerns, the next step is to arrange for Lifecare personnel to train Bronson Fire Department responders on the safe driving system, use of the cot, and documentation of patient care.
In addition, one of Bronson’s Medical First Responders, Don Rinehart, has successfully completed his Emergency Medical Technician course and has become the department’s fourth EMT.
There has been talk recently about having an auxiliary ambulance stationed at the Bronson fire station in case a LifeCare Ambulance is not available in a timely fashion.
Due to a lack of staffing, LifeCare hasn’t been able to meet its response time standards, which promises an ambulance will arrive within 12 minutes of being dispatched at least 80 percent of the time.
The plan would be to dispatch the extra ambulance with fire department personnel if a normal ambulance isn’t available within 10 minutes.
Wilber said during last week’s Bronson City Council meeting that this was not a Life Care or local issue but it was something that was going on across the country as employers struggle to find enough staffing.
