NILES, MI (WTVB) – Republican State Senator Kim LaSata has picked up the endorsement of former Michigan Governor John Engler in her attempt to win re-election to the State Senate.
She is among the candidates running for the newly created 17th District Senate seat.
The district consists of portions of Berrien, Calhoun, Hillsdale, and Jackson Counties and all of Branch, Cass, and Saint Joseph Counties.
LaSata is running against Jonathan Lindsey in the August 2 Republican Primary.
Lindsey picked up former President Donald Trump’s endorsement almost a year ago.
The winner of the August 2 G.O.P. Primary will face Democrat Scott Starr in the fall.
In a news release issued by LaSata’s campaign, Engler said, “Senator LaSata has fought against Gov. Whitmer’s policies that have hurt small businesses, kept schools closed and limited opportunities for Michigan workers. We need to keep her common-sense conservative voice in Lansing so she can keep working hard for us on issues that matter to Michigan families.”
