COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked on Monday night to approve a $70,000 change order for the South Michigan Avenue project.
City Manager Keith Baker says during the course of construction, the contractor discovered that there are inconsistencies with the depth and condition of the existing asphalt and base material on South Michigan.
The City’s engineering consultant Fishbeck Engineering of Lansing is recommending changing the planned milling and paving of South Michigan to a crush and shape process for the entire length from U.S. 12 to Sauk River Drive which according to Baker would provide a better long-term solution.
It would also eliminate patch work at utility crossing areas and eliminate short-term cracking.
Baker says the City has additional ARPA and Act 51 street funds to cover the expense.
A project bid of over $1.2 million from Concord Excavating was approved in March by the City Council.
This is the second change order that has been submitted. The Council approved the addition of East Perkins Street to the project in June at a cost of $70,000.
