COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater held off Marshall for a 56-54 victory in the Interstate 8 boys basketball opener for both teams. Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Colin Warner, led the Cardinals with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals, while Gage McGuire picked up a monster double-double with 16 points and 16 boards along with 5 assists. Brady Beckhusen added 16 points and 7 boards as Coldwater improved to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the Interstate 8. For the Redhawks, who start their season at 0-1 both overall and in the league, Jeremy Luciani had a team-high 17 points.
Bronson picked up their first win of the season on Hall of Fame Night,, as they knocked off White Pigeon 51-39. Luis DePaz led the Vikings with 9 points, while Wyatt Heal, Kenye Radford, and Courtney Salesman each scored 8. Salesman added 8 rebounds as Bronson improved to 1-1 overall, 1-0 in the BCS Blue.

The defending Class B state champion Marshall Redhawks used a 22-13 third quarter to pull away from Coldwater and pick up a 55-40 win. Nikki Tucker led all scorers with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Carlee Crabtree led Coldwater with 9 points, while our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Malorie Rzepka, scored 6. Jamie Wellet had 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists for the Cardinals, who drop to 2-1 overall, 0-1 in the Interstate 8. Marshall is also 2-1 overall, 1-0 to start out I-8 play. Coldwater returns to action Monday night with a nonconference game at Charlotte, and we’ll have coverage of the game beginning at 6:45. Charlotte dropped to 2-2 after Homer defeated the Orioles 51-45.
