COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s been 30 years since the founding of the Branch County Literacy Council, and the council this week celebrated 30 years of helping adults in the community learn to read.
In the past year alone, volunteer tutors have helped 27 individuals increase their reading skills. In addition, a new Reading Center was established this year, which Literacy Council Board of Directors President Ron Budd says allows people to drop-in and get assistance in a low pressure setting.
Literacy Council Executive Director Sam Ellis Greenburg says once people come into the Reading Center, they’re also offered information on the free tutoring program and shown how they can take steps to improve their reading skills.
The Literacy Council office and Readng Center are housed at the Branch District Library in Coldwater. Anyone interested in becoming a tutor should call (517)279-9833.
The Branch County Literacy Council celebrated its 30 year anniversary with a gathering Wednesday evening.
