COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan D.N.R. officer Nick Wellman brought the Branch County Board of Commissioners up to date during their work session last Thursday on several hunting issues.
Those issues included recreational trespassing, hunting without a license and taking more deer than allowed.
Wellman said even though summer is over, they are still patrolling the waters. “We will still be doing a lot of marine enforcement throughout the fall and winter with water fowl hunters out on the lakes…along with the fish game enforcement as well.”
Wellman added that he still continues to assist local police agencies, but he is the only D.N.R. officer in Branch County and also works in five surrounding counties.
An academy for future D.N.R. officers was called off this year because of COVID-19 and Wellman is not sure when the next academy will be held.
