COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A gas leak at the Dearth Community Center in Coldwater just a few minutes after the polls opened on Tuesday morning forced an evacuation of the building and stopped Primary Election voting for about 20 minutes.
The gas leak was reported at 7:15 a.m..
City officials report all election inspectors and voters were kept safe and out of the building until Michigan Gas Utilities and the Coldwater Fire Department gave the all-clear to return.
After a 20-minute pause, the polls were open and voters from all four election precincts in the city were able to resume voting.
The polls are open until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
