KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A strong number of candidates vying for the win in their districts which cover a number of counties in Southwest Michigan will be moving onto to Michigan’s November 2 Elections.
Here is a glance based on unofficial results at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3.
For U.S. House District 2 which includes parts of Allegan and Barry Counties: On the Republican Ballot, John Moolenaar won over Thomas Norton. Norton will face off with Democrat Jerry Hilliard in November.
For U.S. House District 5 which includes parts of Branch, Cass Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Calhoun Counties, it was Republican Tim Walberg over Republican Sherry O’Donnell. Walberg to go against Democrat Bart Goldberg in November.
For State Senate District 17 covering parts of Branch, Calhoun, Cass, and St. Joseph Counties, in the Republican race, Jonathan Lindsey beat out Kim LaSata, which means Lindsey will go against Scott Rex Starr in November.
For State Senate District 18 covering parts of Allegan, Barry, Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties: Republican Party – State Representative Thomas A. Albert over Ryan P. Manicelli. Albert to face off with Democrat Kai Deraff in November.
For State Senate District 20 covering parts of Allegan and Van Buren Counties, Aric Nesbitt winning the vote over his other two Republican competitors to get on the November ballot against Democrat Kim Jorensen Gane.
State House District 35 covering parts of Branch County: Two Republicans going up against each other with Andrew Fink beating out Steve Meckley. Fink to now go against Democrat Andrew Watkins in November.
For State House District 36 which covers parts of Cass and St. Joseph Counties, it was Steve Carra winning over three other Republican Contenders. Carra to face off with Democrat Roger Williams in November.
State House District 37 with a reach into Branch County, it was Brad Paquette getting the Republican nod to go against Naomi Ludman in November.
On the Democrat Side, for State House District 38 covering parts of Allegan and Van Buren Counties, it was Joey Andrews. And the Republican winner, Kevin Whiteford.
State House District 39 covering parts of Allegan and Van Buren Counties, it was Republican Pauline Wendzel over Republican Matt Nilson for the November ballot.
State House District 41 covering parts of Kalamazoo County, Terry Haines won over Ben Stanley as the Republican nominee going forward in November.
For State House District 42 covering parts of Allegan and Kalamazoo Counties, it was Matt Hall over Gary Mitchell for the Republican Ballot.
For State House District 43 covering parts of Allegan and Barry Counties, Republican Rachelle Smit getting the nod from voters to go against Democrat Mark Ludwig in November.
