COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The 2016 Presidential Election is being called one of the craziest in history and it’s not quite over in Michigan.
A federal judge in Detroit ruled in favor of Green Party candidate Jill Stein late Sunday night and ordered a recount of presidential ballots starting at noon on Monday. Recounts in Branch and surrounding counties won’t start until later this week.
With the number of state election workers that are available and because the recount has to be completed by next Tuesday, many counties are being combined with others. Branch County is one of those counties. Its recount will be held at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center at the Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds starting Thursday at 9:00 a.m.
Hillsdale County’s recount will be at the Paragon Charter Academy in Jackson starting Thursday while St. Joseph County’s recount will be conducted at Southwest Michigan College in Dowagiac starting Wednesday morning.
Calhoun County’s recount starts Wednesday morning at the United Methodist Church in Marshall.Stein filed suit against election officials on Friday to hasten the process. Stein says she isn’t looking to change the outcome of the election but to test the integrity of the voting system.
