Amy Michelle Chichester, 47, of Athens, passed away at home on Friday, August 12, 2022 under the care of family and ProMedica Hospice.
A visitation with family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 3:00-7:00 PM at Lighthouse of Athens, 310 S. Capital Avenue in Athens.
Amy was born August 6, 1975 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Brian and Connie (Barnebee) Roe. She grew up in Athens, where she played multiple sports and was a state champion athlete, she still holds the shotput school record at Athens High School. Amy transferred to Union City High School her senior year and graduated in 1993.While attending Hillsdale College, she participated in track for one year before transferring to Grand Valley State University and completing her Bachelor of Science degree. Amy went on to earn her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree at Western Michigan University (WMU) in 2001.
Her career began with interning at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. This led to employment with Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, followed by working since 2008 at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center as an Occupational Therapist. Amy was a lifelong learner who was always looking to expand her knowledge of occupational therapy through specialized certifications. She loved and was a huge advocate for veterans. Her family annually placed flags on veterans’ graves at Fort Custer Cemetery for Memorial Day. Amy regularly went above and beyond for the people in her care. Away from work, she found the love of her life in Jeffrey Chichester. They married August 6, 2010 in Battle Creek and enjoyed a special closeness and many adventures together.
Amy was blessed with five nieces who lived close enough for her to function as their second mother. Nothing pleased her more than being a part of their activities. Family was very important to her. She still attended a graduation and a Florida wedding despite being seriously ill. Amy enjoyed traveling, vacations, trips to Disney World and shop-‘til-you-drop outings with family. She loved the water, the beach, collecting rocks and shells, and going morel hunting. She had an affinity for Princess Diana and a lifelong love affair with cats. Amy had a soft heart and lived a life of service. She put others first and was always there when someone was in need.
Left to cherish Amy’s memory are her husband, Jeffrey; her mother, Connie Roe of Athens; siblings, Eric (Keri) Roe of Athens and Angela (Isaac) Rapson of Battle Creek; nieces and nephew, Sarah Roe, Katelynn Roe, Emma Roe, Sophia Rapson, Phoebe Rapson, Zachary (Erica) Chichester and Tiffany (Aaron) Anderson; brother-in-law, Ted (Marcia) Chichester of Zephyrhills, FL; and father-in-law, Earl Chichester of Athens. She also leaves behind her beloved cats.
She was preceded in death by her father, Brian Roe (2019); grandparents, Moses & Marie Barnebee and Mike & Betty Roe; and mother-in-law, Shirley Chichester.
