Doris D. (Waffle) King, 88, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at her home in Marshall, Michigan.
Visitation will be held at Lighthouse of Tekonsha, 616 N. Main St., Tekonsha on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M and again on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., also at Lighthouse of Tekonsha. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August, 25 at 11:00 A.M. with her nephew, Troy Waffle, officiating. Burial to follow with graveside services at the Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha.
Doris Diann was born to Ernest and Dorothy (Aldrich) Waffle on October 10th, 1933, at the family farm near Tekonsha. She was the first daughter after four boys. She attended Windfall School and later attended Tekonsha High School, where she graduated in 1951. While growing up she was active in 4-H and was a high school cheerleader for all four years.
She married Howard King in Coldwater, MI on June 2, 1951. They lived at the Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois until his discharge in 1953. After that they lived in both Girard and Milan, and in Holly, Michigan from 1968 to 1989. While living in Holly, they ran Triple K Ranch, a show cattle operation that was involved with Angus, Simmental, Maine – Anjou, Limousin and Chianina cattle over the years. She was proud of the cows she owned herself and enjoyed raking hay on the farm. She was known for the meals she would cook for the hired help and vets that would stop in. She also kept the books for the entire operation. She clerked many cattle sales over the years and helped score livestock judging contests.
Doris and Howard raised five girls who were all active in showing cattle and 4-H. She was an adult advisor for the Michigan Junior Angus, Simmental and Chianina Associations over the years. As well as a 4-H leader for 25 years.
Outside of the farm she enjoyed her bowling league, gardening (especially her Iris), getting her hair done and reading.
Upon “retirement” in 1990, she and Howard moved to Durand where they continued to manage a small cow herd and she worked at Sam’s Club in Flint for 11 years. Howard passed away in 2009 and she moved back to Marshall.
In 2012 she married Don Day and they were together until his passing in 2015.
Doris is survived by her daughters; Carol King of Jackson, Nancy (Matt) Verhelle of Fenton, Donna (Kevin) Doneth of Durand and Linda King of Maquoketa, Iowa; grandchildren; Christy (Rainier Galinato) King, Ryan (Sarah) Verhelle, Jon (Crystal) Hodges, Kylie (Jon) Rush, Kelly (Brad) Cesal, Kurt (Kalli) Doneth, Kimberly (Brad) Deyarmond and Deven (Charlie) Wilson. She also had 17 great- grandchildren and another on the way. She is also survived by her brother Ernie Waffle and sister Vicki Enwright.
Doris is proceeded in death by her husband of 58 years, Howard, daughter Marcia King, four brothers, and Don Day.
