COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners voted Tuesday to move forward in negotiations with Hillsdale County on a proposed Animal Control Building, but any hope that construction would start this month are apparently gone.
Talks between the two counties are continuing about sharing the costs of the proposed shelter, which would be built next to the Branch County Jail.
It was hoped Hillsdale County Commissioners would have taken action on a tentative agreement during their Monday meeting.
But following a recommendation from Commissioner Bruce Caswell, the Hillsdale County Commissioners felt that their county should send out Request For Proposals for services in order to compare costs.
Branch County Administrator Bud Norman said Hillsdale County Commissioners wanted to make sure they hadn’t left a rock uncovered, but he was optimistic after the meeting that things would work out.
A tentative plan would have Hillsdale County paying $40,000 a year for five years with the funds going towards the capitalization of the animal control building.
