COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners decided during their work session on Thursday to bring forward to next weeks regular meeting a request from the Commission on Aging to create a position for a Nutrition Director.
This comes after the C.O.A. was recently awarded the state and federally funded contracts for congregate and home delivered meals by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency Board of Health.
The C.O.A. received a three year contract which would be renewable on a yearly basis.
The Nutrition Director would be a full time position starting at a salary of over $51,000. Whoever is hired would supervise 10 or more paid and volunteer staff members.
They would also facilitate and oversee congregate meal service and the delivery of meals to home bound seniors as well as compile and report on the data required for these programs.
Meals from the C.O.A. for qualified seniors in Branch County will be served starting on October 1.
Since the Burnside Center’s kitchen was closed almost five years ago, there would be a transitional period until the kitchen can become fully operational.
Commission on Aging Executive Director Amy Duff said her agency and Community Action Agency will be working together on the transition. Duff said they need to fill the position as soon as possible since time is of the essence.
