COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It remains to be seen if the nasty and bitter presidential race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton will lead to an increase in the turnout of registered voters in Branch County.
The Branch County numbers have gone down since there was a 61 percent turnout when George W. Bush won a second term in 2004.
The turnout was 58 percent in 2008 when Barack Obama was elected to the White House and it was even lower at 54 percent in 2012 when Obama was re-elected in 2012.
Before Bush won in 2004, the turnout numbers in Branch County had been going up. There was a 54 percent turnout in 1996 when Bill Clinton was re-elected which increased to 59 percent in 2000 when Bush edged Democrat Al Gore.
