CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough has concluded that there is not sufficient evidence to authorize charges in the death of four-year-old Kiyanna McNeal who was mauled to death recently by a newly purchased dog.
It happened when the girl, who lived near Sturgis, offered the Doberman-mix a treat. Instead, the dog bit the girl in the throat.
In a statement released by his office, McDonough said, “there is absolutely zero evidence to show that this dog had any aggressive tendencies what so ever or that there was anything that the previous owner knew and did not disclose.”
He went on to say the youngster was left unsupervised with a new animal and something triggered the dog to attack.
McDonough pointed out, “if anything this is an incident where a parent turned away for a short period of time, like all parents do and this horrific and tragic event occurred.”
The dog involved in the incident is scheduled to be put to rest at the St. Joseph County Animal Control Office.
