COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In the opening night of the Interstate 8 Conference boys soccer season, Coldwater survived a slugfest at home, beating Marshall 4-3 Tuesday night.
The Cardinals opened the scoring just nine minutes into the game on the first of three goals from Arif Ahmed. Ezaldeen Ahmed had the assist. Marshall tied the game just two minutes later on the first of three goals from Josh Pugh.
Ahmed scored again with 24 minutes left in the first half, assisted by Ghaith Musa. Marshall tied the game again with 1:20 left in the first half.
Ahmed scored an unassisted goal with 25:39 left in the second half, but Marshall tied it again at 3-3 four minutes later.
Nabil Saied scored the game winning goal with 12:30 left in the game, again assisted by Ghaith Musa.
Trevor Hensinger made four saves in goal, as Coldwater outshot Marshall 16-11.
Coldwater is now 1-0 in the Interstate 8 Conference and 3-4-2 overall. They will play at Hastings Thursday.
The Coldwater junior varsity team beat Marshall 7-0, with two goals from Essam Ahmed, and one each from Umari Umari, Mohsen Umari, Austin Accardi, Hunter Barnett, and Hassan Hajaji.
Franky Ramos Gonzalez had six saves in goal.
