BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers won their third straight game as they stunned the fourth ranked Reading Rangers 18-16 on Friday night in Reading. It was the second straight year the Chargers upset the Rangers. A seven-yard TD pass in the third quarter from Eli Payne to Rick Austin turned out to be the winning score for Union City. Payne finished with 160 yards in the air and two TD passes. Riley Laird rushed for 170 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. The Chargers are now 3-0 in the Big 8 and 3-1 overall.
Homer compiled 532 yards of total offense as the Trojans defeated the Quincy Orioles 56-24. Sam Sawyer led the Quincy rushing attack with 88 yards and a touchdown. Brennan Allman passed for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Ryder Schmachtenberger and Ethan Copas had the Quincy touchdown receptions. The Orioles dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the Big 8.
The Jonesville Comets took out their frustrations on the Bronson Vikings Friday night as they defeated the Vikings 51-0. It was the Comets first win of the season after three straight losses. The Vikings dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 8.
It was a happy homecoming for the Tekonsha Indians as they defeated previously undefeated Litchfield 60-6 in eight person football. Wyatt Blashfield scored five touchdowns for the Indians while Xander Kilbourne added three scores. Tekonsha is now 3-1 for the season.
